CSR i.e. Corporate Social Responsibility is the way through which corporates address the social issues being faced by a large group of people. It means taking initiatives that benefit society. Corporate Social Responsibility in India has attained a new height in the development of society and its people. Businesses are no longer only concerned about selling their products and services without taking into account the world in which they function. A CSR initiative includes many things from giving away some portion of profits for social cause to charity. Through this initiative, companies are contributing in the betterment of society. CSR is not a new concept in India. Big business houses like TATA, Birla Group, etc. have been taking part in this for a long time through charity and donations. Corporates are being aware of their responsibility in upliftment and empowerment of the society, hence, many companies in India realized that it is a sensible step to include CSR activities in their business policy. The main purpose of this initiative these days is to increase the company’s impact on society and its people. Hence, companies are including CSR program and allocating separate fund to support it. CSR have no limitations and don’t discriminate between people on any ground. CSRL stands for Center for Social Responsibility and Leadership, an organization based in Delhi that works towards providing financial support to the poor and underprivileged students of society. It acts as a bridge between corporates involved in CSR program and the one who deserve the benefits. Its entire focus is on giving something back to the society, nurturing young and aspiring minds, and make them enable to compete with privileged and opulent section of society. India is among one of the fastest-growing economy of the world and it is supposed to become a $5.0 trillion economy very soon. Businesses are prospering here. The income of people is on the rise. People are living a better life than before. But despite all these facts, there is some bitter fact which needs to be recognized- the rise in the socio-economic gap and income inequality. It is right that the income of people has increased over the last few years but if we go by a recent report that says that India’s 90% wealth is in the hand of 1% of the population. This shows the income disparity in India. Millions of people are still living under poverty in India. The best way to break this cycle of poverty is through education. It helps overcome inequality, provides development, speeds up social transformations, etc. Government is doing its part to reduce this perennial poverty and so far, millions have been brought out of it. But is the responsibility of corporates also to play their part in the upliftment of downtrodden of society. CSRL, Center for Social Responsibility and Leadership, is a registered society in Delhi that works in the fields of education for poor and underprivileged students. Their focus is on those students who are talented but lack financial freedom to unleash their talent.
